New Year Party
On New Year's Eve,our clahad a party. The atmosphere was good. It was out of the ordinary from the very begining. The boy student from one bedroom gave an unusual performance. We saw a boy named Li Xinmin turn off all the lights in a sudden snap. Then with three resounding(響亮的) crow of a cock echoing in the hall, the hall was again brightly lit in a snap.
Then, the representative of the bedroom Zhu Guozhang asked us to guea line of a poem related to the above situation. He added that Li Xinmin alone was born in the year of the dog and the other three were all born in the year of the chicken. They left us all in confusion. And it was our monitor who was quickwitted(機(jī)智的). He shouted our, "The day breaks as the cock crows three times at dawn." The hall After that, they had another item. This time Li Xinmin was placed in the middle of the circle. While he was standing there, the other three stood around him, each bowing down to him at an angle of 120 degrees. It was an idiom. This time I got it right:"The dog stands out among a group of chickens."
Living in a Large Modern City or in the Country?
"Avoid the rush-hours" must be the slogan of large cities the world over. Wherever you go, especiailat week-ends or on holidays, you' 11 find that the trains are packed, streets crowded, buses queued, restaurant tables shared. MoreOver, the smallest unforeseeh event like a power-cut, an exceptionally heavy snowfall or rainfall can bring about conditions of utter inconvenience and chaos.
City-dwellers are obliged by their environment to adopt a wholly unnatural way of life. They lose touch with nature and all the simple, good things of life like sunshine and fresh air at a premium. Tall buildings block out the sun. Traffic fumes pollute the atmosphere,The flow of traffic goes on unceasingly and the noise-never stops.
The funny thing about it all in a large modern city is,that you pay dearly for tht "privilege" of living. The demand for accommodation is so great that it is often impossible for ordinary people to buy a house/flat of their own. Furthermore, the cost of living is very high. Just about everything you buy is likely to be more expensive than it would be in the country.
In addition, city-dwellers live under constant threat. The crime rate in most cities is very high. Houses are often burgled.Cities breed crime and violence and are full of places you would be afraid to visit at night. If you think about it, they are not really fit to live in at all. Can anyone really doubt that the country is what man was born for and where he truly belongs?
My hometown is a small town in the south of China which is sorrounded by clean water and green mountains .You can see trees and flowers everywhere. The air there is very fresh .It 's warm in winter and cool in summer ,which is very suitable for living .It is a modern and busy town.It has a long history.
But it has not always been like that. In the old days, it was a sad dirty little town. Landlords and merchants lived in the few good houses. For the working people there were only dark, unhealthy rooms in old buildings and huts in narrow muddy streets.
Nearly everyone was poor and many had no work.Everything has changed since liberation. The people, led by the Party, have got rid of the mud and dirt. They have put up schools, theaters, shops and flats. They have an assembly hall and a hospital. Along the river they have built offices, hotels and parks. A lot of factories have sprung up.
On the river, streamers and boats come and go busily, day and night. They carry the products of our industries to all parts of the country.I love my hometown very much ! It is a nice place to live in. Do you like my hometown? If you come, I will show you around this beautiful city!

Reduce Waste on Campus
Nobody could have failed to notice the fact that wasting has become a grave problem in many campuses. In the dining hall, much food are left in the plates and dumped into the trash can. In the classroom, blank or half blank pieces of paper are left on the desks. In the dorm building, taps are left open and water left running or dripping all the time. And there can be more such examples.
In view of the expanding population and the shortage of various resources, wasting is really a harmful habit. It put strains on the already short supply of food, water, electricity and the like. Besides, it goes against traditional virtue of hard work and simple living and may leads to a luxurious life style, which is dangerous to the souls of mankind.
Therefore, it is high time that we take steps to stop wasting. We should start from trifles around ourselves: remember to turn off the tap when we finish washing; try to order the exact amount of food we can consume; never throw away any blank or half blank pieces of paper. And always remember, a penny saved is a penny earned.
