　　the commentator was watching the world cup football final between england and west germany.it seemed certain that england would win.there was only a minute left and england were leading by two goals to one.the german team had scored first but england had soon equalised and a quarter of and hour later,peters had given them the lead.now,play was in the english half of the field and the referee had just blown his whistle.he awarded a free kick to german about forty yards from the english goal.all the players gathered in front of the goal.only a few seconds remained.the kick was taken and the ball went up to the left of the english penalty area.everyone was fighting for it .it flew across the face of the goal.the defenders could not get it way.

　　suddenly,weber,the german left half,had the ball at his feet.bob,the english goalkeeper,rushed to the other end of the goal to cover weber's shot but it was too late.the ball was in the net.west germany had levelled the score.the referee blew his whistle again to indicate the end of the normal period of play.the two teems would have to play extra time to decide who won the cup.

But his wife steals the medicine which can help the man to be stronger. After she eats it, she flies to the moon and live alone.

　　This beautiful myth makes Mid-autumn festival meaningful. During the festival, people eat mooncakes, which are very special and delicious for me. I like this festival because I can spend time with my family. In the daytime, we prepare food. When night comes, the whole families sit at the balcony and appreciate the moon. 　　Some people think we should read selectively. They argue that with the development of modern science and technology, more and more books are published every day. It is impossible for us to read all the books. What’s more, there are many bad books that are poisonous to our mind, and that we shouldn’t read. Since we can’t read all the books, and we shouldn’t read bad books, we must read selectively.

　　But others may not agree. They emphasize that the present society is not what it used to be. If you want to be successful, you must read widely and acquire knowledge in both natural sciences and humanities. If you are learned in one field but ignorant in others, you may not amount to much. Since we must have many kinds of knowledge, we must read extensively.

　　Who’s right? There is a lot to be said for both sides of the argument. However, I think we should read extensively first and then learn deeply about the subject we are interested in.

　　The Tallest Grass--Bamboo

　　Although bamboo is really a kind of grass， it looks more like tree -- a beautiful tree. It has long leaves that sway in the wind like slim fingers reaching to touch something. Chinese and Japanese poets write poems and songs about bamboo， the artists paint it in pictures.

　　Not all bamboo grows tall.Altogether there are more than 500 different kinds of bamboo， and some grow no higher them your ankles. Bamboo grows best in places where it is warm and where it rains often. Some kinds of bamboo grow very fast. If they are growing near a house， their slim leaves brush the roof gently and cool the house with their shade.

　　Some bloom and have seeds every year. Some never bloom at all. Some bloom only once， after living about 40 years， and then die. However， new shoots of bamboo will come up from around the roots of the old ones.

　　But the most interesting about this remarkable plant is what people do with it after it is cut down. As bamboo is hollow， it can be fitted together and used for pipes to carry water. At the same time it is so strong that people use it to build houses， and even high bridges over rivers. Bamboo is used for more then building.People can eat it.The tender young shoots of hamboo are crisp and tasty. They are often found in Chinese or Japanese dishes. Bamboo can also be made into a fine paper， good walking sticks and fishing poles.

　　Bamboo probably has more uses than any other plant in the world.
