I’m a senior student. I like English very much. Besides attending English lessons at school, I often go to the English corner in the park near my home on Saturday morning. It was set up (formed) two years ago. Many high school students gather there. Sometimes, some college students and even foreign friends are present at the English corner. There, we practice our spoken English, talk about what we are interested in, exchange our experience in learning English and so on. I’ve learned a lot.
I have greatly improved myself in English since I visited it. It is really a great help to me.

Saturday Nov. 15, 20xx Cloudy
My teacher gave me an assignment "experience life" last week. I had been thinking how to finish it because I had never done any thing by myself before.
Mother was out today. It was a good chance to complete the assignment. Seeing the barrel was empty, I decided to fetch water from the well.
I took the empty barrel and went towards the well outside the yard. It snowed yesterday, so the alley was very slippery. A layer of thickice was frozen on the platform of the well. I was frightened by the sight, but I gathered my courage to walk towards it. I stepped on the platform carefully. After standing steadily and squatting down slowly, I hooked the barrel at the end of the rope and put the rope down slowly. I made an effort to drag the barrel up after it was filled with water. I was very careful because it was easy to slip and fall. Then, I carried the barrel of water and returned to my house. My figners were frozen stiff. The alley was so slippery that I walked with difficultly. Suddenly, I slipped and fell down, water in the barrel totally poured down on the ground. I realized my effort was in vain. I hated myself.
I failed to finish the assignment but I did experience life through a trifle which seemed easy but difficult to do well. Such was my first experience of life.
We have all faced moments in our lives when the pressure mounts beyond what we feel we can handle, and we find ourselves thinking that we do not have the strength to carry on. Sometimes we have just gotten through a major obstacle or illness only to find another one waiting for us the moment we finally catch our breath. Sometimes we endure one loss after another, wondering when we will get a break from life travails. It does not seem fair or right that life should demand more of us when we feel we have given all we can, but sometimes this is the way life works.
When we look back on our lives, we see that we have survived many trials and surmounted many obstacles, often to our own amazement. In each of those instances, we had to break through our ideas about how much we can handle and go deeper into our hidden reserves. The thought that we do not have the strength to handle what is before us can be likened to the hard surface of a frozen lake. It appears to be an impenetrable fact, but when we break through it, we find that a deep well of energy and inspiration was trapped beneath that icy barrier the whole time. Sometimes we break through by cutting a hole into our resistance with our willpower, and sometimes we melt the ice with compassion for our predicament and ourselves. Either way, each time we break through, we reach a new understanding of the strength we store within ourselves.
When we find ourselves up against that frozen barrier of thinking we cannot handle our situation, we may find that the kindest choice is to love ourselves and our resistance too. We can simply accept that we are overwhelmed, exhausted, and stretched, and we can offer ourselves loving kindness and compassion. If we can extend to ourselves the unconditional warmth of a mother抯 love, before we know it, the ice will begin to break.
We Shouldn't Totally Turn to the Internet
We Shouldn't Totally Turn to the Internet
Nowadays, Internet has become an indispensable part in our life, and we use it for various purposes, such as searching useful information and chatting online. However, now more and more people turn to the Internet for help whenever they have trouble in finding solutions to their problems, and this phenomenon has aroused the public's attention.
Relying on the Internet to solve all our difficulties can have bad impacts on us. On one hand, since we can always settle the troubles by searching solutions online, we can become very lazy and don't bother to think up answers by ourselves, which can hinder the development of creative thinking. On the other hand, the answers online may be inaccurate or wrong. If we use them without thinking the credibility of them, we may make serious mistakes someday.
As far as I'm concerned, we shouldn't completely depend on the Internet to settle problems. When we come across some difficulties, we’d better try our best to find possible solutions. If we make great efforts and still can't come up with an answer, then we can surf online to search solutions. But we should question the correctness of these answers before we adopt them.
doctors are guilty of wrongly believing that obese people are simply lazy, research suggests.
researchers at yale university said the findings highlight the difficulty in tackling the stigma around obesity.
many obese people complain that others believe they are overweight simply because they eat too much or fail to eercise.
this is despite the fact that obesity can be caused by a variety of other factors, such as genes and environment.
dr marlene schwartz and colleagues carried out psychological tests on 389 professionals who treat and study obese people.
they found that younger professionals, in particular, were most likely to have unfavourable stereotypes of obese people.
workers who did not deal directly with obese patients were also inclined to see them in an unfavourable light.
"on both implicit and eplicit measures, health professionals associated the stereotypes lazy, stupid and worthless with obese people," said dr schwartz.
"the stigma of obesity is so strong that even those most knowledgeable about the condition infer that obese people have blameworthy behavioural characteristics that contribute to their problem, i.e. being lazy," she said.
"furthermore, these biases etend to core characteristics of intelligence and personal worth."
dr ian campbell of the uks national obesity forum said he was not surprised by the findings and said they would probably be replicated if the test was carried out on british doctors.
"it is disappointing but it is not surprising to see that health professionals have the same ingrained prejudice against obese people as the general public," he said.
"it is becoming increasingly clear that as much as 80% of people who are obese are predisposed genetically.
"although it is very rare to find a case where obesity is purely genetic, there are many cases where it is not in the patients control."
he said it was unhelpful for doctors to be biased against obese patients.
"it is important for doctors and other health professionals to show understanding and enthusiasm for change.
"if a doctor is biased against the patients efforts, then it is unlikely to have a good outcome."
