Honesty is the best policy

Today I read an instructive speech, in which the speaker argues that honesty is the best policy by telling us a true story about an overseas Chinese student who couldn’t find a job because of his dishonest records.
I can’t agree with the speaker more. Honesty means all the difference between success and failure.
Honesty will eventually bring people benefits while dishonesty may bring people short -term benefits but will surely bring disasters to them in the long run.
Take Mr. Mao, headmaster of ××× national model high school, for example. In face of fierce competition, some teachers neglected their students cheating in examinations and worse still some even cheated themselves to please school leaders. Mr Mao strongly opposed this phenomenon. As a result, his honesty led to his great success as a chemistry teacher and he was promoted as headmaster three years ago. Another opposite example is Sanlu milk powder company. In order to make more money, they added a toxic chemical-melamine to the milk powder they produced, which made it appear to have more protein than was actually the case. The company made a lot of money by such dishonest means. But when the scandal was disclosed, not only did the company have to close down, but also some officials concerned were
sent to prison.

The Bad Effects of Fake Diplomas
There has been a serious epidemic of fake diplomas in some big cities recently. Obviously, its appearance and development involve two parts: the demander and the supplier. People who do not have the necessary diploma to get a desire job naturally thin of this short cut, especially when so many profit-driven people make fake diplomas so easily available. Usually a certificate of Bachelor’s Degree costs about 200 yuan, which is really cheap compared with the 4 years of hard work and the pretty big sum of fees involved in normal ways of getting the diploma.
The victims of fake diplomas are first of all employers, who pay high salaries but do not get real talents. By and by, his business will suffer, and it takes time and money to fine another one who may or may not hold a real degree. People who have genuine diplomas are also hurt greatly. They have honestly spent 4 or even more years and great energy working hard in schools, but cannot get any advantage in job hunting. Thus, actually this phenomenon may encourage people to cheat instead of acquiring a degree honestly.
To combat the epidemic, we should stop putting ever more emphasis on the academic achievement of job or promotion candidates. Instead, practical ability and individual personality should be recognized as important factors of excellent job performance. Besides, effective measures supported by advanced IT technology should be introduced and taken to help employers distinguish genuine diplomas from fake ones. well, it seems that everybody wants to. the biblical span of three score years and ten is simply not enough. medical science is doing all it can to etend human life and is succeeding brilliantly. living conditions are so much better, so many diseases can either be prevented or cured that life epectation has increased enormously. no one would deny that this is a good thing—provided one enjoys perfect health. but is it a good thing to etend human suffering, to prolong life, not in order to give joy and happiness, but to give pain and sorrow? take an etreme eample. take the acse of a man who is so senile he has lost all his faculties. he is in hospital in an unconscious state with little chance of coming round, but he is kept alive by artificial means for an indefinite period. everyone, his friends, relatives and even the doctors agree that death will bring release. indeed, the patient himself would agree-if he were in a position to give voice to his feelings. yet everything is done to perpetuate what has become a meaningless eistence.the question of euthanasia raises serious moral issues, since it implies that active measures will be taken to terminate human life. and this is an eceedingly dangerous principle to allow. but might it not be possible to compromise? with regard to senility, it might be preferable to let nature take its course when death will relieve suffering. after all, this would be doing no more than was done in the past, before medical science made it possible to interfere with the course of nature.
there are people in afghanisan and russia who are reputed to live to a ripe old age. these eceptionally robust individuals are just getting into their stride at 70. cases have been reported of men over 120 getting married and having children. some of these people are said to be over 150 years old. under such eceptional conditions, who wouldn’t want to go on living forever? but in our societies, to be 70, usually means that you are old; to be 90, often means that you are decrepit. the instinct for self-preservation is the strongest we possess. we cling dearly to life while we have it and enjoy it. but there always comes a time when we’d be better off dead.

Hold fast to life, but not so fast that you can’t let go. By always chasing after new goals, we’re never really appreciating what we already have right now. When I walked in the street one day, the sunlight hit me. Hoe beautiful it was, how warming, how sparking, how brilliant! I looked around to see if anyone else relished the sun’s gold glow, but everyone was going to or fro, most with eyes fixed on the ground.
